"Fission" evokes the sudden intrusions that inevitably disrupt the cycles of life.  The piece consists of a central disk turned and carved from Bradford pear branch wood which is pierced by lengths of ash.  The central disk is 8 1/2 inches in diameter and the vertical ash strip is 19 inches in length.
